Overview
Join Steamrail Victoria for the Vintage Train Journey to the home of the gold and grain as they venture to Dunolly behind vintage diesel locomotives.
Passengers may also choose to disembark at Maryborough, a railway station with a town attached.
Departing Southern Cross Station at 8:20am, relax in your comfortable compartment and enjoy the scenery as our classic diesel locomotives power out of Melbourne's rapidly expanding west and climb the Werribee Gorge State Park featuring spectacular views back towards the city. After a short pause at Ballan, they continue towards gold country with Ballarat being reached at 11:08am. The grand station of Maryborough will be reached at 12:10pm.
MARYBOROUGH
A railway station with a town attached. Passengers choosing to disembark at Maryborough will have three hours to explore the historic station and town.
There are a number of dining options including pubs, cafes and takeaway shops. The main street is a 10-minute walk from the station platform.
It is recommended you book in advance for lunch.
Passengers are asked to return to Maryborough Station at 3:25pm.
DUNOLLY
After pausing at Maryborough to take in the station, they continue the short distance to Dunolly, arriving at 12:40pm. The 1874 station precinct features a remarkable Cork Oak tree, believed to be the largest in Victoria. The town was built on the back of the Victorian Gold Rush and features many heritage buildings. The main street, Broadway, is a 10 minute walk from the railway station where you will find the Dunolly Bakery, Railway Hotel, and Dunolly Bistro & Bar.
It is recommended you book in advance for lunch.
Passengers are asked to return to Dunolly Station at 3:00pm.
Reboard the train for a 3:15pm departure from Dunolly and a 3:40 departure from Maryborough. Spend time in Club Cars 'Moorabool' and 'Hobsons Bay' while the train picks up speed for our return to Melbourne, finishing a memorable day out onboard The Vintage Train!

EXCURSION CLASS
Experience our 'E Type' Carriages dating back to 1906 with beautiful timber work & pressed-tin ceilings, walk-through corridors and comfortable compartment style seating. Featuring old-school air-con, with the windows wide open to listen to the engine working hard up the hills. All seating is reserved.
THE VINTAGE TRAIN
Ride with us onboard 'The Vintage Train’, fully restored by Steamrail as an important part of Victoria’s rail heritage. The diesel locomotives date from 1953 to 1968, while the carriages range from as early as 1906. The train features beautiful timber work & pressed-tin ceilings, walk-through corridors, comfortable compartment style seating, a licensed bar and kiosk, and toilets with washrooms. All rail seating is reserved.
ON-TRAIN SERVICES
The on-train facilities include Club Car 'Moorabool', with a kiosk which stocks a wide range of light refreshments, snacks, and hot & cold drinks. A licensed bar will also be operating, serving a range of beers, wines and spirits. A range of souvenirs will also be able for purchase from their on-board store.
