In order to truly appreciate what life was like during the gold rush, there’s no better place to explore than Dunolly. In the centre of town is the Historic Precinct – two beautifully preserved sites that embody the wealth and aspirations of central Victoria in the 1800s.
Visit the town hall on Broadway and uncover the secrets of the past and in Market Street, you can sit on the judge’s bench in the 1863 grand court house; be a prisoner in the lock up; or visit the stables and see where the once very important members of the police force were stationed. Further down the street is a small timber police station. Built in 1958, the station now serves as a time capsule of policing in the 1950s.
Take a self-guided walk and uncover the history of the region for yourself, or book a group tour to be guided by a knowledgeable and friendly local.
