Discover vibrant arts and rich culture as you explore the tiny towns and historic villages of the Loddon Valley.

The Loddon Valley harbours hidden gems for all to enjoy, if you know where to look. From sacred Aboriginal scar trees to mind-blowing life-sized meticulously crafted spanner sculptures and welcoming boutique studios, there is a depth of enriching experiences to explore through this naturally blessed landscape.

Rich and authentic indigenous culture is closer than you may think. Here in the Loddon Valley, find black box trunks with distinct oval scars from the days when the Dja Dja Wurrung took the bark for drinking vessels, baby carriers and canoes. Canoe trees are now rare in Australia but there are around 10 of them in the bed of Lake Boort.

Today’s creative culture is also celebrated. While in Boort take the short drive to Piccoli’s Star Spanner Sculpture Garden, aka the Spanner Man. John Piccoli’s larger-than-life spanner sculptures, placed in the sprawling country garden of his family farm, are something you’ll never forget.

The historic Wedderburn Coach House Gallery and Museum supports local artists through its ever-changing program. Be sure to see whose exhibition coincides with your visit. The surrounding townships also champion their creatives in a host of country markets and festivals.
