Spring in the Loddon Valley is the perfect time for adventurers and travellers to indulge in nature. With diverse and stunning landscapes all across the region, there is plenty to experience as the days grow longer.

Wandering around

In Bridgewater, enjoy the open grassy banks along the Bridgewater River Track as you feel the embrace of a warm and gentle breeze. Dappled in golden sunshine, the vibrant landscape of the river town flourishes with new growth. Spring brings the perfect weather to dip your toes into the tranquil waters. Visitors to this town may also like to try an award-winning vanilla slice from the Bridgewater Bakehouse or sample some local wine from Water Wheel Winery - only a stone's throw from the riverside. 

Other quaint towns to wander around include: 

  • Inglewood with its antiques and collectable stores, historical buildings, Eucalyptus Distillery Museum and Nature Conservation Reserve.
  • Tarnagulla with its rich historical buildings, historical archives, quirky shops and cafes.
  • Newbridge – enjoy a meal from the General Store or Newbridge Hotel before camping alongside the Loddon River.

Wildflowers galore

There are many places to view both well-known and rare species of wildflowers in the Loddon Valley. Popular locations to see wildflowers include Terrick Terrick National Park, Leaghur State Park and Kooyoora State Park. 

One of the lesser-known locations includes the bushland in and around Wedderburn. Travel along Queens Gully trail, keeping your eyes peeled for open clearings and low level wildflowers blooming in a joyful display of colour. Spot the native orchids, lilies and caladenias nestled in the bush landscape.

Unique picnic locations 

Take the lovely country drive out to Mount Hope near Pyramid Hill and bask in the vast glory of the enormous rock formations. Gaze up the boulder covered mountain in the beautiful springtime weather. A picnic at the base is a must, with the stunning mountain as a backdrop.

Other picnic locations include the base of Pyramid Hill, Leaghur State Park, and around Little Lake Boort.

Escape from the city lights and enjoy the breathtaking views of the stars throughout the Loddon Valley. Popular places include Kooyoora State Park, Terrick Terrick National Park and Mount Hope. 

All are spectacular spots to take in the night sky in the Loddon Valley due to little light pollution in the area. So pack a camping chair and enjoy one of mother nature’s greatest shows.
