Mara Metal Art (Jackie and Gary)

Kevin Cahill Photographer

Mara is a Gunditjmara word meaning people; set up in 2018 by Jackie, a proud Eastern Maar woman of the Gunditjmara nation, and her welder husband Gary, their first works of metal art were created from the scrap metal piles of farmers they got to know when they moved to Wedderburn. Recognising a passion for creativity, they developed their thriving garden art business, turning what they found in piles of waste into decorative art. Rolling rings, shaping metal, they work up unique designs, from cutouts depicting native animals to abstract sculptures designed for garden settings. You’ll see a range of their striking pieces, displayed at Kurraca House, guest accommodation at Kurracaburn Heights, Hospital Street, Wedderburn.
