Known as Victoria’s backyard, the Loddon region comes to life over the Summer season with endless water activities and experiences for the whole family. 

Whether you are planning a short day trip, overnight experience or a multi-day adventure, there are many destinations throughout the whole region where you can take to the water.

Find below your cheat-sheet of where to keep wet and refreshed in the Loddon Valley over Summer.

Swimming holes and picturesque places to swim

When visiting the Loddon Valley, a trip to the picturesque Bridgewater for a swim in the Waterhole (Infinity Pool) should be right on the top of your to-do-list. Whilst in Bridgewater we suggest you complement your swim with a scenic walk and picnic on the banks of the Loddon river. Local delights can be sourced from Bridgewater Bakehouse or Bridgewater Farmhouse Kitchen. 

When planning a family friendly swimming day, Little Lake Boort in the northern oasis of Boort is a must visit, and the perfect place to re-charge the batteries. Other popular locations throughout the Loddon region for a refreshing dip include Laanecoorie Reservoir and Tarnagulla Reservoir.

Gliding the waters - Canoeing and Kayaking

What better way to experience the refreshing water of the Loddon region than via canoe or kayak. Visitors and locals alike can glide through the glistening waters of Loddon at many picturesque locations. The most popular is the Boort region in northern Loddon. Boort Lakes Holiday Park offers canoe and kayak hire for paddling on the picturesque Little Lake Boort and surrounding waterways of the region.

Other key locations for a paddle include Duram Ox (Serpentine Creek - currently closed), Serpentine (Serpentine Creek), Laanecoorie (Loddon River) and Bridgewater (Loddon River).

Swimming Pools

There are five public swimming pools open in summer throughout the Loddon region.

These swimming pools are located in the larger townships of Boort, Mitiamo, Pyramid Hill, Wedderburn and Inglewood. For more information on prices, facilities and opening times please visit here.

Waterskiing and watersports

During the warmer months, Bridgewater is waterskiing central. Visitors with boats-in-tow line the streets and the Loddon River becomes a highway for thrill seekers making good use of the ski ramp. Bridgewater is famous as the host of the annual Australian Masters Water Ski Championships each January, which attracts the country’s top skiers for serious competition in trick, slalom and jump.

A little further north in Boort, Little Lake Boort is another perfect place to carve some waves in a family friendly setting. The region is popular for waterskiers, wakeboarders, kneeboarders, tubing and plenty of other water activities. In southern Loddon, Laanecoorie Reservoir is additionally a superb family-friendly location for a wide range of watersport activities.

Fishing

With its many lakes, rivers and waterways, the Loddon Valley is an ideal region to throw in a fishing line. Fishing enthusiasts, beginners and everyone in between venture throughout the region to try their luck at reeling in a haul of fish.

In southern Loddon, Bridgewater is a picturesque destination to fish, right on the iconic Loddon river. Other popular southern locations include Laanecoorie, Newbridge and Serpentine (more central).

In the northern reaches of Loddon, Boort is a must visit for fishing. After a decent rainfall, both Little Lake Boort and Lake Boort are bustling with life and vitality, making it almost difficult to not catch a fish.
