Inglewood is a town rich in colonial-era heritage, with picturesque streetscapes and a bustling collectables precinct. The Eucalyptus Distillery Museum highlights the town's rich distilling history, adding to its unique charm. As the gateway to Kooyoora State Park, Inglewood combines natural beauty with a deep cultural heritage. The region is also a hub for passionate local creatives, whose works are deeply inspired by the town's vibrant history and stunning surroundings.

The following events will be taking place in Inglewood as part of the 2024 Loddon Valley Arts Trail:

What’s special about eucalypts? Do we understand their place in our landscape? Join writer Sophie Cunningham (City of Trees) and furniture maker Damien Wright (Wright Studios) for a discussion about wood in history, now and for the future. Sophie will tell us about her research into Russell Grimwade, one of the men behind the eucalyptus oil industry and author of the 1920 book, An Anthography of the Eucalypts. Damien will show us one of his latest creations, using foraged timber. Local artists' work will be on display as well as produce stalls and people from the Loddon Landcare and Friends of Kooyoora groups.

Eucalyptus Distillery Museum
Famous for the distinctive Blue Mallee eucalyptus, Inglewood’s distillery was the site of an historically important oil industry, when early colonialists discovered the benefits of eucalyptus oil and developed a thriving distillery. The collection of artefacts is unique, stored in this museum and gift shop, created to commemorate the heritage of Australian eucalypts. It’s a functional and welcoming space, perfect for displaying local artworks too: Barb Petrie, Robyn HolthamKevin Cahill, Chris Girvan-Brown and Janette Nixon will be on show.

Venue: Inglewood Neighbourhood Community House

Tucked in behind the elegant Town Hall building, ICNH has a modest entryway, that opens into an interesting architectural space full of light and functionality. It houses community spaces including the library, and it also offers meeting areas which Centre manager Tenar Dwyer turns into a busy gallery for arts trail, with artwork lining walls and also craftworks on display, including the famous berets and beanies made by Bridgewater’s Jenny Hosking and quirky artworks by Rusty Garden Art. Across the road from Nimmitabel mansion, it’s a great place to drop in to browse a range of works by local artists.

Venue: Inglewood Goods Shed

Goods Shed, Inglewood
FACES OF NEWS: There’s a trainload of history in the Inglewood Goods Shed, a sturdy little heritage building opposite the station that used to service the town back in the day. Renovated and repurposed in 2015, it’s now the office of the Loddon Plains Landcare Network, and it’s also where Loddon’s terrific local newspaper, the Loddon Herald, is based. The Goods Shed meeting space will transform into a pop-up gallery for Arts Trail, featuring award-winning photographs of local people and events captured by Loddon Herald editor Chris Earl and Landcare's Andrew Perryman.

Venue: Mal Gilmour Studio

Mal Gilmour left school at 14, and travelled widely, working at “whatever and whenever”. He joined the Navy, serving in Borneo, Malaya, Indonesia and Vietnam, then, turning seriously to art, began showing his work from 1968. From his studio in Inglewood, he creates iconic scenes, most recently haunting works of gnarled trees by abandoned homesteads, beautifully rendered with fine detail and delicate colours. Mal will show his work alongside his art students, in his studio.

Venue: Bill Offord Studio

Bill Offord Studio, corner of Verdon St and Calder Hwy

Bill Offord’s exquisite paintings capture the beauty and drama of the Australian landscape and reference experiences of historical and contemporary Australian life. Bill works in a variety of mediums, including oil painting and watercolour. Sweeping views, dramatic mustering scenes, majestic trees - Bill brings to his canvases a way of life, lovingly recreated.

Venue - Nimmitabel Inglewood

With its formal parlours, high ceilings, bay windows and majestic staircase, beautiful Nimmitabel is an architectural delight lovingly brought back to life. Not only will you have the opportunity to see the mansion close up, you will also see site-specific sculpture by Korang Vale artist, David McTaggart. Works by renowned Inglewood artist Greg Holland will be displayed in Nimmitabel’s grand hallway. Each day, too, Lisa will show a small group inside the house, to view the commissioned staircase mural by Shawn Lu. This special place perfectly reflects Arts Trail 2024’s theme for the year: Seeing is Believing.
