The Loddon Valley

The Loddon Valley and its natural wonders glisten throughout Autumn. What better way to spend a lazy afternoon than a picnic (or swim) at the Loddon River at Bridgewater on Loddon. This experience must be topped off by an award winning vanilla slice from the Bridgewater Bakery, or a delicious meal at the Bridgewater Hotel overlooking the Loddon River. 

For those seeking to escape the city lights, you can experience breathtaking views of the night sky at many key locations throughout the Loddon Valley. A visit to the Region would not be complete without taking to the water by canoeing the Loddon River, the second longest river in Victoria at Durham Ox, Laanecoorie or Serpentine.

Castlemaine, Maldon and Surrounds

For any lover of gourmet treats, Buda Historic Home and Gardens is the perfect destination during Autumn. You can view the magnificent historic residence and heritage gardens, capped off by a gourmet picnic lunch overlooking the beautiful Castlemaine township.

If stunning parks and gardens tickle your fancy, the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens are a must visit. Home to impressive native and exotic trees, the landscaped gardens are centred around a beautiful lake. The spectacular gardens are the perfect place to spend an Autumn afternoon.

Only a short distance from the Harcourt township, La Larr Ba Gauwa is a cultural and adventure mecca. The mountain bike park has a collection of stunning rides for the whole family. Any afternoon can be concluded at the stunning Oak Forest, ideal for picnics and exploring with the kids.

Central Goldfields

Talbot, home to one of the most iconic Farmers Markets in Victoria, is bursting with fresh produce each month at the Talbot Farmers Market. This popular event hosted within the historic backdrop of Talbot, should be etched into your calander as a must do.

If an Autumn stroll with the family or your favourite fur child is on your mind, spend a lazy afternoon in the Maryborough Phillips Garden’s, with a gentle walk around lake Victoria in the Princess Park Precinct.

Bendigo and Heathcote

The iconic British fashion designer Dame Mary Quant and her creative genius is on full display during Autumn at the Bendigo Art Gallery exhibition. The must visit Mary Quant: Fashion Revolutionary exhibition is open from 20 March until 11 July.

The locals parks and gardens are bursting with colour and flair during Autumn, with many venues illuminating a golden glow. Some of the local favourites include the Valley of the Liquid Ambers in Heathcote, Rosalind Park, Bendigo Botanic Gardens and Lake Weeroona in Bendigo.  

Autumn in Bendigo and Heathcote would not be complete without pulling out your favourite picnic rug and basket, and finding that perfect picnic spot around the beautiful region.
