Victoria’s newest state-of-the-art Mountain Bike facility, La Larr Ba Gauwa Park, is home to a network of 34kms of purpose-built mountain bike trails that are making Harcourt a must-ride destination.
There are eleven distinct trails, catering to riders of all abilities from beginner to advanced. The beginner trail around the Oak Forest is specially designed to provide an introduction to mountain biking for families and children.
Along with the use of natural granite features, the Park showcases some of the most stunning views that Mount Alexander has to offer. Trail maps are available in the village of Harcourt and in the park. If you’ve got an iPhone, you can access them via the More to Explore app.
The unique trail head shelter was designed by the Dja Dja Wurrung Aboriginal Corporation. La Larr Ba Gauwa means ‘stones and mountain’ in the Dja Dja Wurrung language. The trail head also includes a bike repair station. Car parking is located in the village of Harcourt with a purpose-built off-road path alongside Market Street and Picnic Gully Road providing access to the trailhead. The park is a manageable 11 km ride from Castlemaine Railway Station which is serviced by the bike friendly V/Line train departing from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station.
