Day : Explore Castlemaine
At around an hour and a half drive from Melbourne, north on the Calder Highway, Castlemaine is the perfect place for a weekend away or mid-week escape. Arriving around lunchtime in Castlemaine via the Harcourt exit why not stop off at Skydancers Garden, Gift & Café for a bite to eat and spot the resident butterflies. Call into the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens where gentle flat paths curve their way around the beautiful ornamental lake.
Explore the heritage sreetscapes and shops of Castlemaine, enjoy dinner at one of the many accessible restaurants including The Cumberland, Shedshaker or Theatre Royal before driving to Maldon for your overnight accommodation.
Stop : Skydancers
Cnr Blackjack Rd and Midland Hwy, Harcourt VIC 3453Skydancers features a nursery, exquisite giftware range and a fully licensed café and is the perfect place to stop for lunch. Friendly butterflies, can also be found fluttering by inside the butterfly enclosure on sunny days between October and May.

The playground is well laid out with rubberised pathways giving good access to all of the play equipment. At the playground, there is an undercover picnic facility that contains one accessible picnic table. The playground also contains an accessible drinking fountain.
At both car park locations, there are good accessible toilet facilities. Power points for electrical recharge of power wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available at the playground BBQ’s and the rotunda.

191 Barker St, Castlemaine VIC 3450The Cumberland Hotel is a generally a well-designed old country pub with plenty of manoeuvring room and gentle slopes to the ramps. The dining area has moveable seating and ramps link all areas of the hotel. A private room is also available for groups with ramped access. Level access entry is via Lyttleton Street, under the awning.
From the main entrance, there is clear access to the TAB on the left and the gaming room to the right. At the end of the bar in the gaming room, there is ramped access to the Bistro and Main Bar. Accessible toilets are located at the rear of the gaming room. An outdoor smoker’s area also accessible from the gaming room. There is also a wide double door access to the children’s play area.
There is a low countertop in the bistro allowing for accessible service. Dietary requirements catered for on request.

Day : Heritage Railway Experience
Wake today in Maldon and get set to take a trip back in time as you travel on the Victorian Goldfields Railway. Please note that this service only runs on Wednesdays and Sundays. Check the timetable and book tickets here.
