Guildford is a pretty town set on the banks of the Loddon River. It was the location of one of the goldfield's great Chinese Diggings sites. While little evidence now exists of the Chinese occupation due to dredging in the 20th century, Guildford has another reminder of times past in 'The Big Tree'. This magnificent old River Red Gum estimated to be over 500 years old, is a rare survivor of the old forests and is the largest of its kind in the region. Guildford also has one of the oldest hotels in the region which boasts a fully restored goldfields era music hall and the General Store which offers friendly service and great food.
