Castlemaine and surrounding towns is located only 120 km (1.5 hours) from Melbourne and is an area well connected by public transport. To get to the main hub of Castlemaine, you can take a VLine train from Melbourne which takes just 1.5 hrs and operates several times a day, 7 days a week.

Travelling from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport

A transfer is available on the Bendigo Airport Service which operates a shuttle service between Castlemaine and Melbourne Airport several times a day. 

Travelling from Bendigo Airport 

Currently there are no public modes of transport operating to or from Bendigo Airport. For arriving passengers the crew will ask for any Taxi bookings required on the inbound flight and arrange for pick-up from the terminal. Alternatively, Avis or Budget car hire is available from the Bendigo Airport terminal for those that would like to self drive around the region.

Arriving by Car

Getting to Castlemaine, Maldon and surrounds by car is easy-peasy.

Heading out of Melbourne take Citylink towards Melbourne Airport Tullamarine then follow the Calder Freeway for about an hour until you get to the Pyrenees Highway and voila, you travel through Chetwon From Castlemaine, you are only 18km away from Maldon and all surrounding towns are easily accessible. Maps to help you self drive in the destination are available from the Visitor Information Centres in Castlemaine and Maldon. 

From Bendigo head south on the Midland Highway (this become the Calder Freeway) for about half an hour and you'll arrive in Castlemaine or use the same route but follow the signs to Maldon.  

Please take caution to drive slowly and watch for wildlife such as kangaroos when driving on country roads. 

Arriving by Rail 

With regular departures from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station, Castlemaine is just over an hour from Melbourne by train. Public transport requires you to use a Myki card, these can be purchased online at www.ptv.vic.gov.au or you can pick one up at Southern Cross Station. Once you get here, Castlemaine Railway Station is just a short stroll from the main CBD of Castlemaine. 

Arriving by Bus
