Our free campgrounds are not powered, and bookings are not required. Arrive early to avoid disappointment!
Camping is available at Vaughan Mineral Springs, Warburtons Bridge and Chokem Flat campgrounds as part of the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park.

Leanganook Camp Ground - Located on Mount Alexander, facilities include toilets, picnic tables and fireplaces. A new shelter with Djaara interpretation and information about the Goldfields Track is planned for late 2023 / early 2024. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Butts Reserve is a great free campground beneath Mt Tarrengower in Maldon, which enjoys a peaceful bushland setting and plenty of room for tents, caravans and RVs.
Red, White & Blue Mine - Camping is allowed in the Muckleford State Forest. There is plenty of room at the Red, White and Blue Recreation Area to park caravans and buses, and you should be able to find a nice spot to pitch a tent.
Walmer State Forest Recreation Area - Nestled just 6 km outside of Castlemaine, it’s the perfect spot for a relaxing picnic or an exciting mountain bike ride through Box-Ironbark forest. Click here for more information.
