Words in Winter has always been about more than books. It's about ideas, conversation, curiosity, and the joy of coming together to think, question, laugh, and listen.
In 2026, we are proud to present a program that brings students, writers, thinkers, performers and audiences into the same lively, generous space.
Across the weekend you'll find a workshop that encourage new voices and sharpen craft; panels that tackle big questions about justice, culture, sport, ageing and humour; and moments of celebration that remind us how stories live not just on the page, but in conversation, music, images and shared experience.
We are especially delighted to welcome students into the festival through dedicated writing workshops, because nurturing the next generation of storytellers sits at the heart of what we do. Equally, we're thrilled of offer spaces for adult writers and readers to stretch themselves, argue a little, reflect deeply, and perhaps see the world differently Sunday afternoon.
