The compulsion to make wine, when we started over a decade ago, just seemed right. Then, with our first vintage already bottled, we unearthed a forgotten ancestor. In the late 1800's Pietro D'Orsa had planted a vineyard in a neighbouring region after arriving from his birth country. This made sense of it all - it was in the blood, a Swiss/Italian family heritage coursing through our veins as we worked the blood red soil to make our deep crimson wine. A sanguine event. Romantic eh! But true.
Sanguine Estate, a boutique vineyard and winery, is a truly family affair with owners/parents Tony and Lyn Hunter working alongside their children Jodi and Mark and daughter-in-law Melissa.
Their Estate is located on the famous Cambrian soil – a fault line of ancient red rock pulverised over 510 million years into soil - and is just 8km (approx. 9mins drive) from the heart of the Heathcote township.
With the combination of an incredible vineyard site producing outstanding fruit and the highly respected winemaking skills of Mark, Sanguine Estate produces exceptional wines, recognised through countless awards and trophies including the most coveted regional trophy the “Heathcote Grand Terroir”.
At their RED 5 star James Halliday rated winery and cellar door, you’ll be greeted by one of the Hunter family and can enjoy tastings of their highly awarded wines within the winery or on the terrace overlooking their beautiful property. Open weekends from 10am to 5pm or you can order their wines online and enjoy the convenience of door to door delivery.
Throughout the year Sanguine hosts several events tailored for wine lovers such as our Heathcote on Show celebration in June where you’ll enjoy a regional gourmet menu with your glass of Sanguine wine or experience the ultimate in wine and food matching at our Annual Family Dinner in Melbourne.
