Controversial, we know, but everyone has a favourite pub. In fact, there’s no shortage when it comes to finding a great pub in the Bendigo region. So, we’ve put together a list of our favourites based on the essentials. Expect to find awesome pub grub, including the classics to something with a modern twist, and even a Korean Barbeque. Pubs with a great range of meeting spaces, from alfresco dining to beer gardens and function spaces. And another must have, is an awesome atmosphere. We’re talking live music, character, and charm.

Axedale Tavern

First established in 1855, the Axedale Tavern is just that, a character-filled tavern full of historic country charm, inside and out. Enjoy live music in the beer garden or sit by the fireplace and enjoy a meal inside.  As a hub for the local community, you’ll find a great family-friendly atmosphere.

The menu is filled with all the classic pub grub dishes, plus a few modern ones. The bonus here, is their special’s nights. Tuesday is Burger Night and there’s the ever-popular Parma Wednesday – yum!

Botanical Hotel

Located opposite the Bendigo Botanical Gardens, The Botanical is one of the friendliest pubs in Bendigo. In fact, they’re family friendly – including your beloved pooch.

After recent renovations, they offer a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces. Our favourites are The Green and The Mirror Gallery. They have an extensive food menu covering all the classics and some mouth-watering desserts.

Cambrian Hotel

If you’re on the search for a pub with a difference, then look no further. The Cambrian Hotel is renowned as being one of regional Australia’s best loved and most respected independent beer pubs. Not only do they have an extensive drinks menu, but you’ll find your classic pub grub menu and a Bendigo first, Korean Barbeque! That’s right, it’s a cook-at-your-table-style feast complete with expertly finely sliced and marinated meats with authentic Korean condiments and side dishes – yum!

Lake View Hotel

Sitting on the edge of the Bendigo CBD, the Lake View Hotel is fast becoming one of Bendigo’s premier dining destinations. Their food is inspired by traditional pub fare with some modern twists, proudly using local produce to showcase the region and its beautiful flavours on both its food and drinks menu. It’s a winner if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion.

National Hotel

Welcome to The Nash, as it’s known to locals. Located directly opposite Central Deborah Gold Mine and on the edge of the Bendigo CBD, plus it’s open seven days.

When dining in at The Nash you can choose from their casual bar menu of burgers, parmas and snacks, or head to the bistro for their more extensive menu including all your classic pub dishes to more gourmet choices. You won’t be disappointed. This is a great option for groups, special occasions and get togethers with mates.

Old Boundary Hotel

Nestled in amongst the suburbs of Bendigo, the Old Boundary Hotel has all the warm and cosy pub feels, perfect for winter. Renovated inside, it features a warm red brick interior with mining and gold rush memorabilia, an ode to Bendigo’s rich past. Sit at the large red gum timber bar for a drink or by the open fire in lounge for a hearty meal using seasonal produce sourced from local suppliers.

Rising Sun Hotel

Believed to be one of Bendigo’s oldest hotels, the Rising Sun Hotel was established in the golden era of Bendigo’s mining history, in 1865. Today, they have a great range of pub favourites, and their famous ‘Riser’ chicken sandwich on a brioche bun with caramelised onions. Added bonus, their international chefs have added their own personal touches to the menu with freshly cooked curries, authentic Indonesian Nasi Goreng and beautiful Thai dishes – yum!

The Rifle Brigade Hotel

Located in prime position amongst Bendigo’s arts precinct on View Street, The Rifle is a favourite stopover for visitors before or after a day at the Bendigo Art Gallery or a show at The Capital or Ulumbarra Theatre.

It’s an historic building with everything you’d expect from your local pub and more – a charming public bar to share a beer with your mates, a restaurant, private dining options, a large courtyard and dedicated function spaces, plus a gorgeous balcony with iconic Bendigo views.
