Artist statement

This drawing I have worked on over the last year, and is the second version of the abandoned city that I saw all around me. It reflects some of the changes that we have all witnessed. What I most noticed about this period was the silence. The absence of people, traffic and noise.

Usually vibrant gathering places were deserted as confinement allowed us no choice but to strictly limit our lifestyle. 

But social limitations have advantages as well. In a strange way the experience of lockdowns afforded me plenty of uninterrupted time in my studio and allowed me to closely observe my immediate environment. I tried to portray this sense of stillness in this drawing.
