'Ghost Gums was created iteratively, interpreting light and space from remembered and imagined places, capturing the transitory and the illusory to form a new world. I see the created landscape as a portal to a psychological and meditative state. Ghost Gums, alongside other idealised and fictitious landscapes in my practice, is composed from an ongoing archive of photographs, as well as site-specific recordings of natural environments. Critically, the work explores ongoing concerns around the landscape genre as a site for memory and care, in light of current ecological precarity and climate collapse.'
This artwork will be on display in the 2023 Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize Finalist Exhibition from Saturday 25 November 2023 until Sunday 18 February 2024.
