Overview
This electronic publication accompanies the exhibition Beginning in Bendigo: from humble origins to a captured market.
Beginning in Bendigo celebrated the achievements of the city’s innovators, from the Myer department store to the infamous showground favourite the Chiko Roll, and included the Cohn Brothers, Leggo’s, the Sunshine Harvester, Fernwood Fitness Centres and the Australian Turntable Company.
The stories featured in the exhibition were merely a selection from the diverse industry which has emerged from Bendigo in the last 160 years. With many businesses still active and growing, and with others coming into being, Bendigo’s reputation as the birthplace of successful business enterprise continues today.
Authors include: Sandra Bruce and foreword by Karen Quinlan. Photography: Ian Hill.
