'Growing up during my teens on the Gold Coast has produced recurring motifs that weave in and out of various works over my career. I visit my parents Gold Coast home, where I grew up, almost every Christmas and in this painting fleeting memories of evening pools, smoking, suburban fences, shadows and suspicion inflect an uncomfortable paradise. Various materialities are generated through different painting methods that respond to the surface of the work.'
