Artist statement
Anathema is from the same series of work as Communion. This image is based on a selenite crystal from my collection, drawn in detail in graphite pencil. The crystal has a sharp point, like a poison arrow. The crystal also floats in a dark night sky, which is filled with points of light and symbols. This work has a small burn in the pencilwork - when the drawing was being developed the weather was hot and the sun coming through the window burnt a tiny hole on the work through a magnifying lamp.
Artist bio
The Unexplained and Unexplored are recurring themes in the work of Naomi Bishop. In her work she explores, darkness, silence, mysterious events and peripheral, other worldly places. A shared interest in both science and metaphysics, searches for the point at which they might converge and reveal
secret knowledge from unseen worlds.
She has been exhibiting internationally since graduating with a Masters from Chelsea College of Art in London in 2003. Internationally her work has been exhibited at London’s Whitechapel Gallery, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Fondation Hippocrene, and Galerie Nicolas Silin in Paris, Arteles Creative Centre, Finland, and The National Univeristy of Taiwan.
