Artist bio
Matthew was featured in BRW as one of Australia's top 50 artists. In the past few years he's won or been a finalist for, 80 national art awards. His work is included in the permanent collection of Australia's most significant museum. Matthew always painted, but for a decade he experimented with career variations - working as a designer, art-director, lecturer, photographer & writer. His first novel was short-listed for the Vogel Literary Award. A conceptual surrealist, Quick combines technical virtuosity with a wry and inquiring mind to make quirky, often humorous, observations on the world around us.
Artist statement
'A Newton's Cradle is more than just a clichéd metaphor for executive power: the laws of motion inherent in its design align with the notion of action and reaction, responsibility and accountability. And also, alas, of corporate decisions made in one location without due consideration of the potential consequences elsewhere. While the two events may not a first be obvious, there is an undeniable link in the chain of events. If only responsibility and accountability were so connected.'
