charcoal dust on fabriano
75 X 55cm
Artist statement
This drawing was made using charcoal dust applied through hand cut stencils using my bare feet – made in response to the millions of people across the world fleeing – fleeing; war; famine; destruction; violence. Many are met with force or indifference. Many discover that their journey is curtailed – some are prevented from entering territories, others are arrested, teargassed, even fired upon – many discover their plight or concerns are not valued or are dismissed, they don’t count - they are not important enough. People are arrested, detained, imprisoned, hurt, even killed. But still they flee.
