Pride of Place celebrated the City of Greater Bendigo’s impressive early growth – the commitment of our towns to become self-sustaining communities – through the structures built for public use.The communities of the City of Greater Bendigo hold a remarkable selection of fine architectural buildings from the Victorian and Edwardian eras; the towns featured in Pride of Place include Axedale, Bendigo, Eaglehawk, Elmore, Heathcote, Huntly, and Redesdale.
This photographic exhibition highlighted town halls and council offices, court houses and gaols, schools, churches, banks and hotels – all are structures which demonstrate the stature of a town and its sense of pride.
ABC Open - Moment Behind the Photo
Post Office Gallery worked with ABC Open to add a personal dimension to the exhibition: Moment Behind The Photo. The social history of the City of Greater Bendigo’s historical buildings is brought to life with personal stories and photos. In conjunction with the exhibition Pride of Place, members of the community were invited to share their photos and to record the stories behind them. While the exhibition is now over, the stories can still be seen online at abc.net.au/open.
