In 2019, Going Solo: First Nations recipient Joshua Muir will present a series of new works in collaboration with digital animator Isobel Knowles and design consultancy Art Processors. His exhibition titled, What’s on your mind? investigates the role of digital media in shaping our current understandings of issues pertaining to the self and our natural world.

Combining his unique style of kaleidoscopic prints alongside interactive landscape animations of Country, Muir reveals the onging dynamism at play between Indigenous environmental activism and digital media platforms. In discussing the show, Muir states, “Social media encourages us to speak when we need to listen to our environment.”

Muir is a Gunditjmara/Yorta Yorta artist who lives and works in Ballarat. He held his debut exhibition Don’t Spit the Dummy in 2013 at the Koorie Heritage Trust. In 2016, Muir was commissioned as a major project artist by White Night Melbourne, and projected his work Still Here on the façade of the National Gallery of Victoria. His most recent exhibition Josh x Muir showcased at the Koorie Heritage Trust in 2018, oversaw the development of an extensive body of work which referenced aspects of hip-hop culture and youth identity.

Muir has been a recipient of the Telstra National Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander Youth Art Award. His work is held in important national collections including the Koorie Heritage Trust, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
