Elvis In Paradise, 2022
synthetic polymer on card
150 x 140 cm
Elvis In Paradise is a work using synthetic polymer on card. This began with automatic drawing to create shapes that then reveal solid forms. I believe that through this methodology, I can draw from my subconscious. As the work developed, I noticed that Elvis Presley had made an appearance. Whether it be a coincidence or really my subconscious coming through, his emergence resonated with me, as, my granddaughter has informed me, since she was old enough to speak, that she genuinely believes she is the reincarnation of Elvis Presley.
My journey towards being an artist began when I studied under Jenny Watson in the early 1980s. I then went on to study at The Victorian College of the Arts where I completed two degrees in fine art, majoring in painting.
Since then, I cannot remember a time I wasn’t painting. I mostly paint large works with a personal narrative. My preferred medium is a combination of oil paints and synthetic polymer, however, over the years I have explored many different methods or art within my practice.
I like to bring to life the images I create, giving them meaning and purpose, for me, that provokes an unknown adventure and ultimately depicts a connection to my subconscious, the mysterious world of dreams, archetypes and fantasy.
