This Spring at Bendigo Art Gallery, creativity meets sustainability.
This Spring, Bendigo Art Gallery is excited to put upcycling and recycling at the heart of our Holiday Program. Through a series of creative, hands-on workshops, children and families are invited to explore how everyday materials can be transformed into something fresh, fun, and inspiring. From imaginative art-making to inventive design, our Spring sessions celebrate sustainability, creativity, and the joy of giving new life to familiar objects.
Join us to create, play, and see how art can bloom in surprising ways.
Plastics Reimagined: From Waste to Wearable

Give plastic a second life!
Join artist Cesar from Aoracreo and discover how to upcycle ordinary plastic bags into something stylish and useful. Using only an iron and baking paper, you’ll transform plastic into a durable material and craft your own small bag or pouch.
This 2-hour creative and eco-friendly workshop shows how waste can be reimagined into beautiful, practical design – helping reduce landfill and pollution while unlocking your creativity. Adults are welcome to join the 1pm session.
Artist Bio:
Cesar is the founder of Aoracreo, a sustainable design practice based in Naarm (Melbourne) that transforms soft plastic waste into durable, fabric-like material for functional art pieces such as wallets, pouches and accessories. With a background in abstract painting, portraiture and street art, Cesar brings a playful yet purposeful approach to design, driven by a belief in craft, sustainability and giving waste new life through creativity.

Suitable for all primary school children
Bring the kids along for a fun, 30-minute creative session designed especially for primary school children. Using a mix of recycled and new materials, their imaginations will come to life through hands-on making.
Parents and carers are asked to accompany children under 8 years old. This workshop is free, but bookings are essential.

They all come together in this magical holiday program designed especially for children aged 2–7 and their grown-ups!
Join Bendigo Art Gallery’s Learn Team as we:
- Discover a very special sculpture of Circe, the enchantress from Greek mythology
- Enjoy a fun picture book reading
- Create your very own magic wands to take home
This interactive session is perfect for little people and their big people to experience together.

Wild Wearables

1.5-hour workshop

Suitable for ages 8+
Join Madeleine Somers, a fibre artist, costumier and teacher for textile exploration inspired by the wearable art pieces of Jordon Gogos.
In this 90 minute workshop, you will weave, plait, bind and amass strips of fibre and fabric to create your own wearable accessories, belts, hair extensions, large scale tassels and pom-poms, bracelets and armbands, wings or tails. You'll be the designer of your own wearable creation. Adults are welcome to join the 1pm session.
Artist Bio
Madeleine Somers is a costumier and fibre artist living, working and gardening on Dja Dja Warrung Country.
Working in theatrical costuming since graduating in 2006 her work gravitates towards surface decoration, fabric manipulation, sculptural techniques and artistic finishing. Madeleine teaches all ages from her studio at Lot19 in Castlemaine.

Get creative at Bendigo Art Gallery with a playful collage workshop inspired by the still life paintings in our collection.
Join Education Officer, Andy Jones for this one-hour, hands-on session where you’ll cut, layer and piece together colourful collages inspired by everyday treasures you might find on a kitchen table. It’s a chance to see still life in a fresh way and design your own vibrant table-top masterpiece! Adults are welcome to join the 2pm session.
Bio:
Bendigo Art Gallery Education Officer, Andy Jones comes with over 20 years of experience inspiring young people through art. A specialist art teacher with a passion for everything from painting, printmaking, photography, fashion and collage. Andy is known for making workshops creative, hands-on and welcoming for all ages. She has led fashion-themed family days to VCE art programs through to community projects, and always finds playful ways to connect people with art, ideas and each other.
