Join us for our March Art and Country session at Galkangu, where we will spend time exploring the extraordinary work of Yolŋu artist Dhambit Munuŋgurr.
We will discuss at a significant bark piece that documents Dhambit’s healing journey following a life‑changing accident in 2005. Using her signature palette of vibrant blues, Munuŋgurr depicts the traditional bush healing provided by her family, drawing on deep knowledge of Country, care, and Yolŋu lore.
In this session, we’ll look at how Munuŋgurr combines ancestral techniques, such as painting on bark with traditional tools and contemporary materials, creating a bold new form of Yolŋu expression that has gained international acclaim. Participants will also have the chance to take part in a hands‑on activity inspired by her innovative approach.
A celebration of resilience, cultural knowledge, and creative innovation, this is a lunchtime session not to be missed.
