Guest speakers
Vipoo Srivilasa
A Thai-born Melbourne-based artist, curator and arts activist. Vipoo works predominantly in porcelain but also creates work on paper, mix media sculptures, bronze statues and designs large scale public art. From time to time, he incorporates food and interactive performance into his ceramic projects.
His work is a playful blend of European historical figurines and Asian decorative art practices with a healthy dose of contemporary culture... often exploring cross-cultural and migration experiences.
Sai-Wai Foo
Is a Malaysian-born Chinese, Naarm/Melbourne-based artist. She holds a BA(Hons.) in Fashion from RMIT university and her training in fashion design influences and informs her practice through technique, finish and materials.
Her work explores place, belonging and identity often using repurposed materials which gives them a new life through her sculptural practice. Foo’s materiality prompts viewers to consider discarded materials and to reconsider how things are used in our over-curated and insatiable consumer society. Her pieces invite a more intimate engagement, due to their scale and delicacy.
Working primarily in paper and textiles Foo is a bricoleur who collects discarded and redundant items, deftly synthesizing them into new sculptural forms.
Chef Nartchanok Jansri – creator of Good Thaimes
While preparing food my mind is filled with my mother cooking in our backyard kitchen in Thailand. It connects me to my homeland and has given me a life here amongst the beautiful community in Castlemaine/Djaara Country. It’s my hope that people feel my heart and culture while eating my creations.
Chef Nartchanok Jansri created Good Thaimes to share her love home style Thai cooking. It began with her first pop-up kitchen at Cam's cafe at the Abbotsford Convent. Now she cooks weekly at the Castlemane Farmers Market and caters for special events.
