Week 20: 10 August 2020

Kathryn Harrison, Covid Housework

Kathryn Harrison, Covid Housework, 8 August 2020
I am actually finding the mask quite challenging to wear.
I feel like I am suffocating but I do admire the aesthetics of masks hanging from the clothesline and imagine how strange that sight would have been in 2019.

David Stephensen, A Round on the House—Pythagoras

David Stephensen, A Round on the House—Pythagoras, 2 August 2020
Solo virtual choir. This round was composed in the 1960s by science communicator David Ellyard, explaining the Theorem of Pythagoras. ‘The square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares on the two adjacent sides, fa la la, and hey nonny no’.

Julie Kala, The Clothesline

Julie Kala, The Clothesline, 3 August 2020
Childhood memories of swinging on the Hills Hoist are things we cherish when we reflect back on the good times. Who else loved the frill of flying through the air? I used to make hammocks for my cats on the clothesline so they could enjoy the ride with me.

Eric Kala, Grey Village Landscape

Eric Kala, Grey Village Landscape, 4 August 2020
I was going to colour this one, but decided to experiment with just lead pencil shading.  I did not erase any of the prep drawing, so part of a clothesline can be seen as well as the cross on the church.

Angela Morrissey, A Woman and a Man (Purple) I

Angela Morrissey, A Woman and a Man (Purple) I, 5 August 2020
This drawing is inspired by the following Bible passage: “Cover me with kisses, for your love is better than wine (Song of Solomon 1:2).” The Song of Solomon is a fine example of Middle Eastern erotic literature that celebrates the love between a woman and a man.

Dr Michael J Leach, Press Conferences

Dr Michael J Leach, Press Conferences, 7 August 2020
Michael is a poet, epidemiologist, and lecturer at Monash University, Bendigo. This artwork—a word cloud—was inspired by listening to press conferences. It is based on words that stood out to the artist and does not reflect actual qualitative data.

Gillian Fallon, Owl

Gillian Fallon, Owl, 7 August 2020
Recycled materials (old drink coasters, buttons, florist wire, bamboo and mainly peacock feathers) make this owl: using an old 48 record as the base.

Helen Lunt, Bendigo Wax-flower on Leanganook Track, Spring Gully

Jane Coburn, Inklings

Jane Coburn, Inklings, 6 August 2020
This drawing, in graphite pencil and pen, was inspired by an accidental ink spot. I folded the paper several times (while thinking of the Rorschach Psychological test), and once dry, saw 2 "figures" (I've photographed them, with the drawing).

Carol Woodhams, A Courtyard in Tropea, Italy

Carol Woodhams, A Courtyard in Tropea, Italy, 8 August 2020
Spent a few weeks in southern Italy a couple of years ago and thanks to Iso, I've finally got around to attempt painting one of my many inspiring photos from that holiday.

Duffy - Ha Ho Art, Nice Dream 2020

Duffy - Ha Ho Art, Nice Dream 2020 (Acrylic on canvas), 9 August 2020
So this is pretty much finished, other than, as always, I will reassess it once it is stretched or framed...

Andre Sardone, Mesmeric

Andre Sardone, Mesmeric, 9 August 2020
As the handle is turned this piece comes to life.
Another experiment involving mechanical movement and interactivity.

Paul Casey, The young composer and the poster

Paul Casey, The young composer and the poster (acrylic on canvas), 9 August 2020
A work in progress still.

Gail Casey, Chair

Gail Casey, Chair (Surface Pro drawing), 9 August 2020
One of several domestic studies from the confines of home.

Jane Ineson, Life Drawing

Jane Ineson, Life Drawing (Graphite), 8 August 2020
I love expressing drama when there is only five minutes to seize the moment!

Sue Jeavons, Silver Chain

Sue Jeavons, Silver Chain, 9 August 2020
With the return to lockdown this silversmithing project at Bendigo Gem Club is stalling again.
