The heart of the ship.
The Engine Room is a safe, transformational space where anything is possible and where the performers and audience are in very close proximity. It hosts festivals, talks, classes, musicals, plays, stand up and everything in between. By its very nature The Engine Room attracts organisations looking to rehearse and stage small-scale works.
The hirers of The Engine Room are empirical and diverse. From youth theatre companies, to musicians, comedians, dance companies many of our hirers present works that showcase emerging talent. We invited 16 local organisations who have hired this venue in the recent past to take part in this installation to celebrate the creativity that is generated in this historic and versatile performance space. With photography by Michael Wolfe, here are their stories.
