History of the former Bendigo Fire Station building
The Bendigo Fire Station building was constructed in 1898 to house amalgamating local private and volunteer fire brigades.
The two-storey red brick building has contrasting white stucco details. It is a good example of Queen Anne revival architecture, which was favoured by its designer local architect, William Beebe.
It is an important example of an intact turn-of-the-century fire station that reveals its early use.
Since 1990 the building has been leased by the Bendigo Regional Arts Program, which also lease the former Masonic Hall (now known as The Capital).
