Overview

United Artists of Mexico and Bendigo (Artistas Unidos de México y Bendigo) offers a glimpse into contemporary Mexican artists within a group show of eclectic styles and contrasting approaches, reflecting the perspectives and preoccupations of Mexico today. It explores how the works of Mexican artists reflect the theme of identity, nationality, and the legacy left behind by Frida Kahlo.

Showcasing works by contemporary Mexican artists, this exhibition also includes – as part of a unique cultural exchange and experience – recent works from local artists who have creatively responded to the visual and thematic elements of the Mexican artwork pieces.

Works include paintings, photography, prints, papier mâché sculptures, display pinata and textile works.

Mexican artists include Deniol Alva, Jose Ortiz, Ulises Resendiz, and Lizette Vieyra.

Local artists include Bodes, Salena Cummins, Chris Duffy, Sharon Greenaway, Sally Poltrock, Avery Montgomery Reid, Molly Rule, Aime Sacrez, Jed Shue, Ivan Sun, Claire Tennant, Kristine von Hilderbrandt, and David Waters.

Open from Thursday June 12 until Monday June 23, 11am to 6pm daily. Free entry.
