Due to the impact of the extended COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria, Victorian Opera is unable to present Parrwang Lifts the Sky in-theatre as planned, which has resulted in the Livestream performance being cancelled.

Based on the current advice, Victorian Opera will continue to rehearse and now record the work on Saturday 12 June, with the release of the film via online streaming for schools on Friday 18 June.

Note: This is an event for schools only.
For school bookings please contact the Box Office on 5434 6100 (option 1) or email

Livestream a new Australian opera direct from Arts Centre Melbourne.

Parrwang Lifts the Sky tells the creation story of the sunrise based on a traditional story from Wadawurrung Country.

Composed by Yorta Yorta soprano and composer Deborah Cheetham AO, the opera is ideal for primary school students in years foundation to 6 and secondary school students to year 9.

Parrwang Lifts the Sky is Victorian Opera’s 2021 Education opera and offers schools attending the livestreamed performance free access to a series of interactive livestreamed workshops in the lead up to the production. Across the four workshops, students will meet the singers and composer, explore the unique artistic characteristics of opera, learn about Wadawurrung culture and discover what happens inside the rehearsal room to bring the opera to life on stage.

Each workshop is easily accessed online and can be viewed in real time on the scheduled dates or on-demand. Teachers will receive access to workshops when they book tickets to the livestream.
