Tim Darbyshire: Making Time

Making Time is an evolving live performance. It began as an exercise video during a period of social isolation magnified by the pandemic. Somewhere between dance, play, installation and concert, Making Time invites audiences to gather, pause and ask: what becomes possible in our lives when we make time differently?

It is also a performance about trying – and occasionally failing – to make time at all.

Through movement, moving image, sound and provocation, a human-badger and an artificial voice attempt to build something from almost nothing:

“Hello there. Welcome to this space.
What is this? A room? A theatre? A box? Oh, I like that. Let's call it a box.
Anyway, whatever this is, you're now in it. You were out there and now you're in here. We are all in here now.”

Things are made and unmade. Time stretches and slips away. Moments of connection emerge unexpectedly before quietly disappearing again.

This August, join Tim Darbyshire and collaborators for an open showing of this evolving work-in-progress as it continues its development towards its 2027 premiere.

Tim Darbyshire

Tim Darbyshire is a local choreographer and performer working across dance, performance and installation to create immersive and unusual worlds. His works have been presented across Australia and internationally including Dance Massive, Artshouse, Noorderzon Festival (NL), Tanzhaus Zürich, Every Body’s Spectacular (IS) and Kampnagel (DE).

Making Time is supported through On Residence – a Punctum X Dancehouse program offering opportunities for local artists to develop adventurous dance works with regional audiences. Supported by the City of Greater Bendigo.
