Oshun is a colourful, vibrant story with dance, soul songs and live drumming, that takes you in the kingdom of the Yoruba (West African) Orishas (gods). Inspired by a myth from the Yoruba oral tradition, it tells how young Oshun, the goddess of love, femininity and sensuality, rails against ridicule and crippling self-doubt to prove to the other Orishas (deities) that her powers are in fact, potent.

This is a captivating 55-minute one-woman show where Amarantha embodies 9 different Orisha characters and is accompanied by drummer Adrian H. Hearn, who plays the rhythms of each Orisha on traditional Yoruba bata drums.

REVIEWS
“Oshun is an unmissable, gorgeous and illuminating show shedding light on the West African goddesses and gods. They (the orishas) eclipse the Greeks who have dominated the canon of mythologies in the ‘west’. Here is a charismatic, cheeky performer and virtuosic dancer.”
Mari Lourey

“Oshun is an expression of an ancient style story that has survived through hardship and feels special to watch. Amarantha’s style of dance expresses this incredible radiating joy. You get to learn about cultures, in a way that feels authentic to how these ancient cultures would have been experienced. Adrian is an incredible drum player, who plays a beautiful and unmatchable rhythm. The dance and drumming transports you to another dimension.”
Praise Dionysus Podcast

“Oshun brings all the drama we’ve come to appreciate from a story about the Gods: revenge, seduction, rage, betrayal, jealousy, joy and triumph. Amarantha conjures a roll-call of West African orishas (ferried across the Atlantic through the transatlantic slave trade) with reverence, humour, grace and charisma.”
