Songs of Rest and Renewal
Genesis Baroque welcomes the return of renowned Australian soprano, Sara Macliver, for a heartfelt program of soul-nourishing compositions exploring love in both human and divine forms.
The elegance of George Frideric Handel’s Trio Sonata in C minor begins this hour-long voyage through the spectrum of passion and love. Buxtehude’s sublimely simple vocal chaconne, Herr, wenn ich nur Dich hab is a joyous ode to the love and comfort from God, followed by J.S. Bach’s Weichet nur, betrü¨bte Schatten, written for the celebration of a marriage. Henry Purcell’s An Evening Hymn concludes the evening, leaving audiences with music piercing their soul.
